Frequently Asked Questions

Our pastors would be honored to come and pray with you when death is imminent. If there is time, please reach out to Murph Huston at (515) 706-7503 and we will make every effort to have someone come to you.

If this happens after hours, please feel free to call 515-222-1520 and select the option for emergency support. A member of the Pastoral Care Team will return your call as soon as possible. If you are interested in a hospital visit from a pastor, we encourage you to call Pastor Andy at (515) 577-0390.

When you and your family are ready to set up a funeral, you can contact Murph Hutson to meet with a pastor and discuss the next step.

After the death of a loved one, you will need to contact a funeral home to provide the necessary care. There are many excellent funeral home providers in the Des Moines metro area. Hope does not endorse any one in particular and we suggest you interview providers to make the best decision for your family.

Once you have spoken with your selected funeral home, please call the church at 515-259-9495 to make us aware. After contacting us, we can work together to start the planning process.

Below you will find a few things you should rely on the funeral home to provide you, or give guidance on:

  • Securing necessary permits and death certificates
  • Cemetery choice (plot or niche space)
  • Flowers or other memorial funding
  • Visitation (if held at the funeral home)
  • Care of the body (casket or urn)
  • Obituary in the local newspaper
  • Processional to cemetery (transportation)
  • Guest book and other essentials for service

First, please consider the several types of services offered: A Celebration of Life or Memorial Service, a service with or without a burial, or a Graveside Service with a Hope pastor presiding.

A visitation can be scheduled right before the funeral service at Hope Grimes (based on church calendar availability), or the evening before. A visitation can be done at Hope or off-site at the funeral home.

Following the confirmation of a funeral date, time, place and type of service, the presider will arrange to gather the family at Hope Grimes to hear stories of your loved one. This will also serve as a time to select favorite scripture(s) and discuss musical choices.

We view it as an honor and privilege to walk alongside you and your family in your time of grief. There is no charge for any part of the funeral service, or the optional luncheon that typically follows funeral services at Hope (to be served as a gift from your Hope family).

We would love to walk alongside you in this process to help provide peace, comfort and hope amidst life’s pain. Our Pastoral Team at Hope Grimes will check in with you and your family after the funeral to provide support and peace. We encourage you to attend a weekly healing prayer service at Hope West Des Moines to foster your healing journey.

We currently do not have grief support groups at Hope Grimes, but if you are interested and would like more information regarding grief support groups, please contact the Hope West Des Moines Care Team at [email protected] or by calling 515-222-1520.

An inscribed memorial brick for your loved one will be added to our prayer garden at Hope Grimes. To create a memorial brick please follow this link and enter your information on the form.
